I sit on our sofa to work every night. I put my daughter to bed this evening and when I came down my husband was lay on the sofa (he does this most nights, but gets up when I come down). Tonight he has fallen asleep.
I always use the sofa because I can spread my work out.
The question is - how can I wake him up without him getting cross - he's always grumpy when he wakes up?

Any romantic gestures will be met with "get off - what you doing?"

I can't work anywhere else. We have the tiniest house ever built. There's a dining table, but I'd wake him up pulling it out and it would be a waste of time! He's sat IN MY OFFICE for goodness sake.

DO NOT wait until he is asleep, or already on the sofa. Talk with him before this happens. If he is an understanding and loving man who respects you and wants to be a helpmate, he will happily allow you to wake him or ask him to move without any or much grumpiness. When we get married, I think we should become in tune with our spouse and do whatever it takes to help each other out. Granted, I may not do what is expected of me on my own but if my wife asks, I usually do it right away. I do chores all the time and try to help because I think it makes life easier for both of us. I wash clothes, cook, clean the house, keep the cars running, keep our daughter healthy and clean, I work and so on. My wife also does the same things. It's about respect and our love for each other. So, talk with him about it.

Just snuggle with him. Lay beside him . Do you work on the kitchen table. He is trying to give you a hint he wants to be with you and you want to do your work on the sofa. He is in the same boat you are in you two do not know how to talk with each other. .
Work on the kitchen table. Cuddle on the sofa. Cuddle with him Tell him before you put your daughter to bed that you want some one on one time with him. Then get up early in the morning and get your work done on the kitchen table or the sofa. Change the time of day you are getting your paperwork done.

Just shove him really hard and if he gets grumpy, give him a slap and tell him to stop being so irritating. Or you could try putting things in his mouth while he's asleep, that way you get him to wake up and have a laugh in the process (that's what my mum does and she's 50, my dad's 53 and I'm 26!!! She's been doing things like that for 30 years, my dad gets really annoyed, but I guess he must always forgive her)!!

For goodness sake, its only a place to work.

Use the living room table, or sit on the stairs, or use the floor. But why you'd want to kick your husband off the sofa just because you are used to one space is just selfish.

Have a change, use somewhere else!!

Let me be gentle. What kind of work requires you to commandeer the couch nightly after the child is in bed?
Perhaps this sleeping thing is a method for letting you know that you have been letting your work(?) get in the way of his comfort AND couple time. Now he is in your way.

If you cannot wake him up without his getting upset you might consider working at the kitchen table.

I would just pull him off the sofa and then tell him he was having a nightmare and lunged himself off the sofa ;) Then you would have your office space . How dare he sleep in your office area the shame of the man lol :)

just wake up the man
or work in the bedroom tonight
I am not sure why you need other people to give you an answer for this ?
no one is wrong so the man is too tired to get to bed
you either live him sleep or gently wake him up

Just for tonight can you use somewhere else? like the floor or the kitchen table.
Compromise it a good thing and it doesn't cause unnecessary arguments.
It is; after all just this once, if it was every night then have a quiet word.

Wake him up, only to be surprised by your readiness to sh*g.... He can't complain... Then kick him off. The next day when he wakes up, slap him hard and say: Don't you ever dare do that again...
