I find you comment to be unbelievable! I personally consider Bush and his supporters to be the most morally bankrupt sort imaginable. Bringing this country into a war based on lies that has cost us our place of honor in the world, the lives of many patriotic Americans, and tons of money we really don't have. The only consolation I have is that I know Bush will someday have to answer for his behavior while here on Earth, and he will reap the rewards of that behavior.
You ask any Republican about help for the poor, time off for new parents, enhanced educational opportunities for our citizens, environmental protections, or anything to enhance the quality of life as a citizen of this country, and the only answer you'll hear is no, we can't afford that, or there's no way a government can do that--though other profitable countries worldwide do these things as a matter of course--and these countries have lower crime rates, and better standards of living. Now, that's doom and gloom.

"Pessimistic", "gloom and doom": try *REALISTIC*. We're involved in a military conflict with a country that's in the midst of a civil war, that didn't attack us, that had nothing to do with 9/11 whatsoever (if you disagree, feel free to provide evidence proving me wrong), the casualties among both US troops and Iraqi civilians continues to get higher and higher, and there's *ABSOLUTELY NO END IN SIGHT, AT ALL*. Insipid platitudes about "cowardly evil-doers who hate us for our freedom" (whatever happened to nuance and not reducing everything to black and white absolutes, by the way?) don't change that. And by the off chance that you're inclined to dismiss anyone against this war as "bleeding heart commie liberals who hate America", bear in mind that opponents include retired generals and the late Gerald Ford.

This war is for our children? I thought it was against terrorism, or was it to stop a civil war in the middle east? Or maybe its for oil? What was the reason Bush gave this week for the war?

Its usually easy to win a one person debate.
There are many doom and gloom and outright hateful conservatives who do nothing except bash liberals- thats why conservatives have no credibility with me.

What children?? Do you mean the young men and women that are being killed in Iraq? They're some one's children too and even some of them have children.

It's amazing to see people posting things like this when even conservatives, like Arlen Spector, oppose W.'s plan for sending more troops to their deaths.

Not so my conservative friend. From 1992-1999 it was Conservatives who told me daily that our nation was off the track and of course Rush reminded us daily of America held hostage as I believe he referred to it.
Personally, I think the better characterization of us Liberals is cynical. We are definitely cynical and not as easily led by feelings of false morality or false patriotism.
