They are scheduling congressional hearing to see if the FMLA needs to be changed, not to eliminate it. Many states have FMLA programs that exceed the government's minimum standards.
One of the standards being examined is at the request of unions who want employees to be able to use accrued time during the FMLA. Currently the time has to be used prior to the leave begining. Another suggestion is to make it a paid leave of shorter duration.
The Act is not in danger of being eliminated, but it may change. And like most laws when they are enacted or change some people may benefit and other may not. With the Democrats in control I don't see it being in much danger.

That is not what NOW claims. A quote from their web page.
"In response to complaints from the Chamber of Commerce and big business owners, the U.S. Department of Labor has issued a request for public comments related to the regulation and administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Since this administration is no friend of working families, we know this is an initial step toward blocking even more families from taking the unpaid leave provided by the FMLA. We must show our support of FMLA to ensure that policies for productive workers and healthy families are in place."
This is a public comment period before deciding to expand or reduce the scope of the act.

Our country survived and prospered for ~200 years before the Family Medical Leave Act. If it goes away, nothing will change. We don't need the government running our lives.
Big Business is not chopping away at American families. We are doing that to ourselves. People want to drive the super sized SUV and watch HDTV on plasma screens. Instead of staying home to raise children, women go to work to feed their consumerism habit. If you don't like the consequences of your choices, make different choices.
Disclaimer for our PC world: I am not blaming women, I am blaming our entire culture. If we weren't so brainwashed into needing to buy the latest toy, we would not need two-income families.

Sassy, I really don't think any member of Congress would support that. For one, what would happen if pregnant women had to return to work within days of giving birth ? That goes against almost every religious denomination there is.... and Congress does not like to upset religion. Also, remember that the president has to sign off on that, and he would never go against Mama Barbara, who is very involved in family affairs. I think it is wonderful that you show concern for issues like this.... more people should !!! For that, you deserve a star !!!

that was the best thing Clinton did in office. Why in the world would they want to tear that down. That is just another way to plummet our economy, let the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
The problem with this is that it makes no sense. This was a democratic act. Democrats are against big business, so seeing as they are in congressional control, why would they disassemble their own act?

I'll be mad. I've taken leave from work thanks to the Family Leave Act, and I appreciated it.
I don't get why conservatives want women to take care of their families and then get pissed off when they leave work to do it. Hardly anybody has a family where one person works and one person stays home--it's just too expensive.
So, it's either a single-parent family, or both parents work, or somebody has to take off work to take care of whomever. Why should people be penalized for taking care of their families?
Totally unfair. And as women are the ones who are the usual caretakers, it's sexist, too.

With a democrat controlled congress why are you worried? The better question is what are we not being told.
