Before you do anything, tell his parents or yours. At 5 years old he shouldn't know what puberty is. You guys should explain to him that he'll learn when he's older.

you should tell his mom or another adult first before you go into any details because they might not want him knowing these type of things at such a young age. I however think that you should tell him, not to in depth, but what puberty means. I happen to think that education is the key to helping kids make good decision because they are aware of what is going on with there bodies. You should also ask where he heard about puberty? But you still need to tell an adult, because you are young yourself, and that is a delicate situation that must be approached in the right way. All the best.

Tell him he should be asking his parents first. And you should mention it to his parents. They are the ones that should be discussing these things with him. It's nice that he looks up to you. But the best thing you can do is encourage him to talk to them.
What exactly is he asking? You would only need to answer exactly what he asks. Don't offer up any more information. Five is awfully young to be asking questions about puberty. Is he being exposed to sexual things when he shouldn't be? You should ask him why he wants to know about that kind of stuff. It's possible that he's being exposed to things that could be way above his head or even harmful. Proceed with caution.
