Yes, since it means they have to work a little less to pay for the daily "gate", the gas, and whatever other fees they need to make in order to break even and actually put something in their own pockets.

Current daily "gate" in SF is about $90, and airport charge them $2 each just to go in and wait for customers. Don't forget gasoline. So basically a taxi driver needs to make $90+gas just to break even for the shift, not even making any real money.

Think about that next time you consider stiffing a taxi driver. Every few dollars will help.

They can only hope........They're like most people in the tip industry, they usually take one look and decide whether or not they're going to get a "very generous tip". Sometimes the most successful looking people are lousy tippers. I think they can always hope for that "big surprise". I say to them, "be friendly and helpful and treat everyone the same." You just never know when that generous person will jump in your cab or sit at your table.
