This depends on wether or not you are nursing. If you are, it could be months. If not, then weeks. This is a good topic to discuss with your OB nurse.

I just had my baby (Jan 3) and started my period on Feb 5th. I know b/c my bleeding had stopped and I quit wearing a pad. I breastfeed for only a week for personal reasons. With my first I breastfeed for 4 weeks and had my period about a month after she was born too. In both case it was b/4 my six week check up. This time the bleeding is a bit heavy, but could just seem that way, b/c I was used to wearing a tampon and it's been 10 months since I had one.

It depends on whether or not you breastfeed, usually. My doctor said it comes about 6 weeks after you stop breastfeeding. If you're not breastfeeding at all, it can show up 6 weeks after the baby is born.
These are just estimates, though everyone's body is different. It could come earlier or later--it can even come when you ARE breastfeeding.

After having children many women's periods can change. the heaviness, and the length can both be different from the regular period you had before the baby.

i got mine right after having both of my children it stayed for about 10 days and after that it was pretty much back to normal; but I didn't breast feed either---It may also depend on what kind of birth control you choose to use after your 6 week check up
