It's most definitely SOUL II SOUL, Back to Life! I love this song. Keep Movin is pretty awesome too! It's not rap, but more soul/house/afro-beat

Odds are, it's "Into the Light" by Chris deBurgh.
It's a song from the late-80's/early-90's, and fits the bill (especially as Mr. deBurgh has that high voice you mentioned).

I'm not sure . . . but maybe you're thinking of "Into The Light" by
Gloria Estefan? - That was a great CD. She had a hit "Coming Out Of The Dark" that was a great song and video - a song about her recovery from a horrible bus accident that she was in.
