My car was towed because I was driving without a license. I would rather sign over my car than pay $1400 for the 30 day storage fee. How do I do that?

By the way the car has only been in for one day and under CA law they have to hold it for 30 days. I was told it would be around $1400 and I only payed $2100 for the darn thing so I'm trying to avoid all of that mess

Go talk to them. They really don't want your car. Offer them the title, in exchange for forgiving your debt. Get it in writing if you come to an agreement. However, as I said before, they don't want your car. Most likely they will reduce the amount owed and try to get you to take the car. Good luck with it.

I'd check that CA law with a lawyer - I've never heard of any law requiring that they keep the car for 30 days - especially if the cost is worked out by the day.

get your title, sign it over, have it notarized and kiss the car goodbye. if you don't have the title, meaning you are paying payments, then you have to pay the car off in full then sign the title over.

why would you let it sit there for 30 days to begin with? even without a license you can get it out, friends, family, co-workers, even an ad on craigslist offering someone $50 to drive it home for you is cheaper than losing a car.

All they are going to need from you is the signed title. You will want to get the plate back from them. The only catch is if the car is worth $1400 to them or not.

If you have the title sign it over to the towing company its that simple. Unless you have a loan on your car then your screwed.

basically do nothing. After the legal period (varies by state) the towing company will file for a salvege title and it will be theirs anyway. You could always save them the time by signing the title/tag reciept and mailing it to them.

call them up and be like you can have the car... just mail the baggie in the glovebox back to me. if it doesnt work, pay 1500 and sell it on ebay (the car)
