I had my baby almost 7 weeks ago and I just started my period. Is it ok to use tampons, or should I still use pads?

Thank you!

I only had one kid a long time ago but I clearly remember after my 6 week checkup that the doctor said that I can resume normal activity. I did use tampons with my first post natal cycle. If you are not sure just call and ask the docotr. Thats always the best courseof action when you are uncertain.

Oh and congrats on your new baby!

I've just had a baby. When can I start using tampons again?
Not for at least six weeks after giving birth. Even if you've never used sanitary towels in your life, you'll get very familiar with them in the first few weeks after childbirth as the inner layer of cells from your uterus (womb) sloughs off and passes out of your vagina as part of a menstrual-like discharge called lochia.

The lochia can last for anything up to six weeks and, while it flows, you still have an open internal wound at the site where the placenta was attached to the uterine wall. Like any wound, it's vulnerable to infection, so it's important to avoid tampons until you've completely healed inside because they could introduce bacteria. After your postnatal check-up with your GP (usually done about six to eight weeks after your baby is born), assuming the lochia has stopped and your doctor gives the go ahead, you can use tampons for your next normal menstrual period. Of course, if you're breastfeeding, you may not get your period for many months to come.

I can tell you from my experience, i couldn't! I tried, but they never felt right after giving birth...i still don't really feel comfortable and my youngest is almost 4. Before i had kids, i never wore pads...now it is the opposite!

Medically speaking though, i think it is ok, but you should check with your doctor since everyone is different!...here are some links!

You should be find unless your doctor has told you not too. Usually doctors will tell you not to insert anything for 6 weeks after giving birth to allow time to heal.

At six weeks and one day, I was back to using tampons.

After the birth of all 3 of my children i was always advised to not use them so as to be aware of blood clots and other related things.
I was advised to do this for 2-3 month after.

I believe your suppose to use pads up until your follow up with the doctor, I think its three months. Something like that if you already had that then I think its perfectly fine.

its up to you, if you are comfortable using tampons then use them
if you are still tender, then use pads.

If you have had your 6 week visit already and it is comfortable, I would say go ahead, if you really aren't sure ask you OB/GYN, he/she is the best source!

It's okay to use tampons if you are comfortable with it.

I say use pads, but you really should call your OB/GYN and ask.
