Yes - but the improvements will take time, because revenue growth needs to happen too.
I don't watch many MLS games, but i will watch the MLS All Stars and the championship matches. these games tend to be a bit better, but certainly not at the pace and quality of the EPL.
The plan for US growth has to come from a few key areas, notably Hispanic fans/players and Asian fans/players. There are certainly strong Mexican, Central American, Korean, and Japanese communities in the US. If teams would continue to grow alliances - like with Chivas with teams/players from these nations, MLS will continue to grow. Another growth area could be more club friendlies with clubs from these countries.
Sunil Gulati has pretty much laid out this sort of plan. So, I believe MLS will improve - IN TIME.

Each country gets to have their own league, MLS is not a top league but that doesn't stop it from being a decent thing to watch. The Belgium, Switz, Austrian, Polish, and Romanian leagues, to name a few, are filled with players and teams that could never cut it in Europe. That does not mean that the people in those countries do not enjoy what they have to offer. Yes the best of the best are in Germany, Spain, Italy, and England but everywhere else is just picking up the scraps, Europe isn't this giant juggernaut it is just insanely top heavy with talent.

No, because the league is focused on getting young kids to come to the matches. The league officials don't want to see good ball being played. They want the kids & their soccer moms shelling out the bucks for their product. It's sad, cause there was a chance to get the game in action, but it didn't sell tickets. There weren't glamourous names involved. So no, it sucks. Watch the Campeonato Brasileiro, Espana's La Liga, or the English Premier League if you want watch some ballas ball. Hell, I watch the Mexican Futbol Liga over the MLS anyday of the week.

The quality of play won't improve in the MLS until they start paying competitive wages. Right now each team is only allowed to pay it's entire team 2 million dollars, except for one player (the so-called "beckham rule"). Players are dramatically underpaid compared to other American sports and European leagues. Until you pay players more, you'll keep having crap players in the MLS.

Becks is going to draw more attention to MLS, but he's not that great a player and I don't see the quality of play increasing. On a skill basis, he's really an atrocious midfielder who happens to be good on set plays. However, the increased visibility hopefully will have the indirect effect of bringing in more money so owners can afford more talent.

Beckham isn't the magic bullet to improve the quality of play in MLS. I think it will take some time -- the quality has improved over the years the league has been in existence. And I think it will continue to improve over time.

Yeah it sucks that like nobody watches soccer in America. Beckham isn't just going to magically change everything. I think that having a superstar like that in our country though will change it a little and have more people pay attention to it though.
