Not much to explain.
Two cops get together and form a patrnership.
A murder case happens where a young lady's body is found in a lot nakes and cut in half. her dress resembled a dres in a movie the Blue Dalia.
The senior detective seems to go nuts. the Junior detective seems to be falling for the senior detectives's girlfriend. He also seems to be faling for a witness related to the case.
A criminal is getting out of prison and he is likely to kill the senior detective. In fact it appears he does.
The Junior detective is not satified with that.
He figures out what happened with the victim and with his partner.
The witness he has been seeing is part of a rich family that had the girl killed on a movie set for what she knew and the fact that she had a particular look to her. they then tried to cover it up but the detective figured it out, yet nothing was ever recorded.

the black dahlia is actually the most notorious, californiain, unsolved mystery murder.(that is for strange guy) the movie is less about the murder and more about the dynamics of 2 detectives and a woman they oddly share a relationship with. i was hoping for a story more about the dahlia and less about the rest of the junk going on. but for a mystery loosely based on true events, it can be enjoyable

It would be a total waste of time. Great expectations were foiled when I wasted two hours watching that turkey. I don't understand how good people were conned into being in the movie and how in the world they got it to the screen. Worst movie of all time? Perhaps 2nd or 3rd.

It's based on a real life unsolved murder in Hollywood, and the girl was cut in half (as other people have mentioned)
I don't think they have found out who did it either, but apparently there were quite a few suspects, some of whom were quite famous. I'm juts going off the top of my head here though, so don't quote me!
