I was watching the previews for Rachael Ray and everyone in the audience stood up and clapped. Same goes with people who cry or almost pass out when they see a celebrity. I don't get it.

Can someone who does, help me understand what the big deal is?

In live tapings, they actively encourage huge amounts of reaction to the host & guests. I went to the Ellen show when her guest was Paul McCartney. Since I love Ellen & adore Paul, I quite naturally stood up and acted gob struck.

As for Laura Bush, I would give her a one-finger salute.

Its a sign of respect and appreciation. I like Laura Bush and think that she is a wonderful First Lady. So yes, I would stand and give her a standing ovation if she walked into the room. Unless I was the only person in the room, then I would just stand up and greet her warmly with a handshake and a smile.

Yes, she deserves a standing ovation. She is the First Lady. Regardless of how you feel about who is in office, she is still the First Lady. And she is a classy, intelligent, caring one at that. Besides, if all the people around you are standing and you are still seated, it would look bad.
Now, what I don't understand is why people go crazy and start jumping and screaming when Oprah walks onstage at her show. First five minutes of her show is hysterical women acting like Oprah's God.

I don't know about a standing ovation, but I'd would give her my up most respect and attention. Being the daughter of the most famous person in the world is something that a lot of people have a hard time living up too.

Yes, I would show Mrs. Bush great respect. She is the First Lady of our country and most importantly, a former teacher. This woman has taken the opportunities given her to positively influence others' lives and to conduct herself with poise and grace the entire time her husband has been in the White House. Good job, I say!

Its just overwhelming for some people when they see a celebrity they always see on TV standing right in front of them.

I would probably let out an "Oh my gosh!" but I wouldn't fait or anything.

Its kinda weird, but thats just the way it is.

Yes I would give Laura Bush a standing ovation, because her nation-wide literacy program has helped millions of children who are struggling with reading comprehension catch up to their classmates, and after all she is the First Lady and it's not her fault that her husband is a moron! :p

i think what happens is ppl get so hyped up to see the celeb, that when they actually c them, they FLIP OUT!!! On shows, the producers tell them too. But, i think that the reason is ppl r such big fans (and sometimes stalkers) that when they c the person, they're "over" excited. hope this answers ur question
