Just curious. I can respect the fact you guys sorta care, but its so misguided. Think with the mind and not the heart. Read a history book. Read the Constitution. That would be a start.

I have read a book, and I bet I am smarter than you are. Why?! I see the world in gray not black and white. I can deal with ambiguity. I can handle not knowing all the answers. The Republicans and conservatives are always sure they have the answers and can rarely admit they are wrong. Stating that you were wrong is a show of strength not weakness. Weakness is not adapting to the real issues in the world and being able to change to fit those evolving circumstances.

So, I care that ONLY half of the population might be liberal because the other half is what is holding the US back from being a real superpower that can lead the world through good example. Throwing away the Geneva Convention is not a good example. Ignoring Habeus Corpus is not a good example. Pretending that global warming doesn't exist is not a good example. Smearing war heroes for partisan politics is not a good example.

BTW, another commenter wrote:

"Liberals want to end freedom as we know it:

-Gun control
-Higher taxes to keep us in bondage
-A bloated Universal Healthcare system
-Costly welfare programs that hurt the working class
-More legislation
-Big government (Nancy Pelosi and her 747 jet)

Liberals are undermining and destroying our great way of life."

George Bush is not a fiscal conservative. He is all about big government though not the same government that so called liberals want. He has only vetoed one bill in his office. A President that is against more legislation would veto lots of bills. Mr. Bush doesn't care about the working class as he helps break unions, and he promotes bringing in cheaper labor from abroad to fill American jobs. Bush is part of the elite in the US. He is NOT a plain old boy. How many of the working class have a degree from Yale or Harvard, let alone two? Mr. Bush created the bloated Medicare drug prescription, and his administration has limited people going to Canada to buy cheaper drugs. Mr. Bush has done nothing to stop the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) which is catching middle income workers at higher and higher rates. His tax cuts have gone, primarily, to the ultra rich who can afford to pay more taxes than lower income people. And, gun control is a GOOD idea if it works, but I cannot trust studies funded by the MRA or the Gun Lobby. And, you shouldn't either if you value objective analysis.

But, what am I saying? You don't value objectivity. You want what is best for you while ignoring that everyone, in the US and in the world, depend on each other. There is no such thing as a self-made man. If the crap that is promoted in this thread/question happens, then the people here are likely to be the losers not the winners. But, people, read conservatives, are often too wrapped up in their selfish ways to see it.

What I see is the Bush administration limiting people's freedoms left and right. and, people just blindly go along with it. To have freedom, one must trade safety. If you want safety, then you will lose freedom. I prefer freedom. And, to me, it isn't just a word used to make others feel bad. It is a real goal. Unfortunately, the reasons freedom is being eroded is because of the conservative influence. Conservatives, by definition, are anti-freedom. The want things to stay the same. They don't want society or people to change. Freedom allows for change.

The United States remains, for the moment, the most powerful nation in history, but it faces a violent contradiction between its long republican tradition and its more recent imperial ambitions.

The fate of previous democratic empires suggests that such a conflict is unsustainable and will be resolved in one of two ways. Rome attempted to keep its empire and lost its democracy. Britain chose to remain democratic and in the process let go its empire. Intentionally or not, the people of the United States already are well embarked upon the course of non-democratic empire.
