Yes!!
This is the number uno mistake women make in putting on makeup! You'll end up looking caky and fake.
In order to look natural in artificial light or even normal light, your foundation MUST match the tone on your neck exactly.

No, you can't wear a wrong shade of foundation unless it is like VERY different from your skin tone, for like 4 or 5 tones. You can wear darker tone of foundation if you do it for a reason. And if you apply it correctly there will be no visible line on the neck, but you must not forget to apply it also behind your ears - yes, that's right. If the foundation is just a little or like 2-3 tones darker, you can always make it lighter with the pressed powder, which you put in the end. And with the pressed powder you can make the lines, where the foundation ends, look smother.
As a professional makeup artist sometimes I chose darker foudations than my "client's" skin tone, specially on indoor occasions with strong un-natural light. But applying darker foundations takes more skill and knowledge to use properly, if you don't know exactly why you are doing it, it can be a disaster :=)

Hi yes it can in artificaial light or normal light. But its worse in normal light this is why you are suppose to apply foundation in daylight and then when you have applyed go outside into the light and see if you havent rubbed in anywhere or you hav estreaky marks or the shade it just orange and it sticks on your eyebrows or you miss your hair line and jaw line. But i suppose in artificial light when you apply make up with the light on will make you look like your skin is flawless and the colour matches your skin tone, but when you see yourself in day light you will realise you look like you have a mask on.
To make sure you have got the foundation the right shade for you you have to test it on your jaw line to see if it blend in and leaves no marks. If it doesnt leave any marks then this foundation is perfect. Dont try it on your hand or your finget as they are a different colour from your face.
Foundation is to wear to cover up inperfections without looking like you are wearing any make up. But if your body colour is a different colour to your face you are going to tell.

Use a foundation in the exact shade of your skin and then add bronzer to give your skin a sun-kissed glow. Using the wrong shade of foundation looks fake and just plain bad.

Yes definately. I hate the orange tide marks around girls jaw lines. Use a foundation the same colour as your skin and add colour using a bronzer.

You should always test your foundation on the jawline. If it looks unnatural in any light, its the wrong colour. Go to a reputable make up counter and pay the money and get a half decent one..or use tinted moisturiser..then if you get it wrong its not as noticeable

If you are having pictures taken then it would be ok to go one shade darker. Makeup shows up better in photos when it is darker. For everyday wear it would not look natural.

Yep, it's the number one foundation sin/mistake!
It will look orange, mask-like & fake.
Foundation should match your skin colour. And don't test it on your hand, it's not the same colour as your face. Needs to be tested on your jawline. Good luck!

Yeeeeeesssss. u need to match your skintone EXACTLY for it to look beautiful and natural in any light. if you go too dark it looks fake and people can tell and you'll have the orange line. if you go darker it'll look bad in natural AND artificial light. test some foundations til u get your perfect one. just embrace your natural skintone and you'll look fine. ;)
