I save change from my purchases during the day and drop them in a big jar. Recently, a few banks have said they won't count the coins in their machines anymore. A friend told me some banks won't take rolled coin. The machines in supermarkets charge a percentage. What's the deal?

The answer I got from my bank is that they only do it at certain locations. I had made special trips to these branches to find the coin counting machine there broken. I think they break down whenever something foreign goes thru it and they don't want to pay to fix it or run it. My bank will take change and send it to their main office, count it there and send me a deposit receipt in the mail. I don't like doing it,but they have me estimate the amount and deposit that into my checking account, and then adjust it when the real amount is counted. It's weird, but atleast they can't say they lost it and you get nothing.
Anyone else had this experience?

Banks and bank employees are getting lazier and offering fewer services, my friend. Same thing that happened when gas stations got away from full service stations -- there was a time when you'd go to the gas station and someone would come out to pump your gas, clean your windshield, check your oil, etc. Not anymore. The goal now is to make as much money as possible and these idiots think that providing more services costs them too much money -- it also costs them customers.

Thats weird, I wouldn't bank with them anymore if they wouldn't take my money. All the banks in my area take change.

It's a service to you that is a hassel to them, and they don't make any money on it, so they won't do it any more
