If all the worldis a stage, where does the audience sit and, who are they?

Behind the TV set. Couch potatoes. The thing is, though, the TV isn't showing the actual play. It's showing a hand-puppet routine that is occasionally loosely based on the play. But the audience thinks that they're getting the play straight, even though they aren't.

It is a closed rehearsal. Some actors get booted off, some new ones come on stage. You can't see the audience because of the strong lights. The people in the audience are the booted off actors, sipping their gin-tonics and waiting for the taxi home.

Shakespeare wrote "As You Like It" in 1600. The famous monologue that you are referring to was given by Jacques.
"All the Worlds a stage,
and all the men and women merely Players:
They have their exits and their entrances:
And one man in his time Plays many parts"

Okay enough of that. It goes on...basically Shakespeare is saying we all act out our lives on the stage know as the world. That the audience is everyone who passes in and out of our lives even if we do not know them, or may never know them. (someone who saw your story on the news etc, you having a hard day). The audience is all around you.
They sit, stand, walk and act out their life around you and you are their audience.
The rest of the Poem is about man coming full circle in life, from dependency on Mother to dependency on another in old age.
