The master of lake town

The Master of Lake-town did NOT die when Smaug the Dragon attacked the town. When the able-bodied men and the Elvenking's people marched to the Mountain "the Master remained behind; and with him were some men of crafts and many skilled elves" "and also under the Master's direction they began the planning of a new town, designed more fair and large than even before". And later on it says "From that treasure Bard sent much gold to the Master of Lake-town", so my guess is that he was the Master of the 'new and improved' lake-town as well.

He dies when Smog (The Dragon) leaves the Lonely mountain to destroy Rivertown.

He's the last person the Dragon eats.

His son is a minor character on The Lord of the Rings who dies during the Battle of Helm's Deep.
