very laid back here--people are very friendly (maybe a little too freindly--just outrite nosy as hell)---plenty of jobs---affordable housing--very little racism--overall a good place 2 live & grow

oh my god! I am a Berkeley girl too. I lived there for almost 11yrs. I now live in Virginia, and let me tell you, for the first 2-3 months i didn't think i will like it because of the cold weather. The good thing is you will get use to it in no time. The only advice i can give you is the winter cloths that we buy in Cali doesn't work in east coast, so don't bother to buy any winter cloths in Cali. The other thing is keep yourself busy and meet lots of ppl so that you don't feel lonely. Other than that you will do just fine. Good luck with the move and have fun!

Yikes! You are in for the culture shock of your life. There is nothing you can do to prepare. You better be open minded.
