i know plenty of people will say charlie ward because he didnt even play in the NFL, but there was definitely one worse that i can think of.....i think this guy got drafted, but he never did anything....and even in college he was TERRIBLE........anyone know who im talking about?

if not, who was the worst in your opinion? based on that year in college, not their success in the pros which is a different level

what about snubs? many people think manning got snubbed by woodson in 97

YES I MEANT THE WORST PLAYER AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL TO WIN AND BE NAMED THE BEST PLAYER FOR THAT YEAR.................

let me clear a few things up though...RYAN LEAF did not win the Heisman, he was only a finalist....i guess people think that since he was such a bust and was picked first i believe

Chris Weinke sucks in the NFL but had unbelievable numbers at FSU, won a national championship

and I was speaking of the infamous Gino Torreta!!!!!!! How terrible was he? Damn he is doing valet parking 2? He bagged my groceries last night at the store!

thanks for the answers so far and let them keep coming

I'm gonna go with Eric Crouch, but i'm mixed about it. His passing stats were definitely subpar. In fact, his Heisman winning season was his worst in that department. However, 1115 yards, and 18 td rushing, from the QB position is pretty impressive. Here are his career passing stats, 2001 was his Heisman year:

Year G Att. Cmp. Int. Pct. Yds. TD Eff.R.
1998 8 101 49 4 48.5 601 4 103.65
1999 12 160 83 4 51.9 1,269 7 127.93
2000 11 156 75 7 48.1 1,101 11 121.66
2001 12 189 105 10 55.6 1,510 7 134.31
Totals 43 606 312 25 51.5 4,481 29 121.14

Most notably for me, is the fact that he had more interceptions than touchdowns when he won the heisman.

Toretta from Miami, although he got drafted round 6 anyways. U talking about Jay Berwanger? Maybe Andre Ware? Did he win? I'm sorry I know alot about college football but I cant remember heisman stuff.

Gino Torretta, 1992, Miami U

He had the athletic ability of a Texas Hold Em player, and somehow beat out Marshall Faulk and Garrison Hearst!

Needless to say, he did nothing in the NFL.

snubs: Archie Manning

Brett Farve

Peyton Manning

Jim Brown

Joe Montana

worst player to win the Heisman:
(edit)
Ricky Williams - The Saints traded their entire draft for this guy. Not only did he wash out of the Saints who traded him to Miami and cleaned up. After he got to Miami he was kicked out of the NFL for dope. And he hasn't recovered since.

How stupid do you have to be to realize you can make Millions a year by staying off the reefer and refuse to do it.

Aside from Billy Cannon, sent to jail for fraud, Williams is the biggest loser.

Its a good and bad story

Gary Beban probably had to be the worst. Great college QB, but was not even drafted as a QB by the Redskins. Played in one preseason game

I am gonna have to say Eric Crouch or Jason White. Both system guys never amounted to anything. Eric Crouch had a very bizarre NFL dalliance as well.
