Try to find some Jeffrey Steele music. He was the lead singer of Boy Howdy in the early 90's, and now is a solo artist but is best known as one of the best songwriters in the business. Some of the hits he's written for other people include Me and My Gang by Rascal Flatts, The Cowboy in Me by Tim McGraw, and Picking Wildflowers by Keith Anderson, among many many more. He's incredibly talented, and I think you'll enjoy his music.

I love the edgy country-rock style epitomised by Gram Parsons and others. Big Star is also excellent.
Try Laura Cantrell or Lucinda Williams for superb vocalists. Cowboy Junkies are also excellent vocally.

Try timelife.com they have over 50 different country compilation albums anso your bound to find something you like. Personally Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are two of my favourites
