DANIA BEACH, Fla. - More tests will be necessary to determine the cause of Anna Nicole Smith's death, but no illegal drugs were found in her hotel room, officials said Friday.
It's possible Smith's died of natural causes, because of some medication or from a combination of reasons, said Dr. Joshua Perper, the chief medical examiner for Broward County, who performed the autopsy.
The autopsy was able to exclude any types of physical injury such as gunshot wound, asphyxiation or blunt trauma on the body of the 39-year-old former Playboy playmate and reality TV star, Perper said.
It revealed only "subtle findings" in the heart and gastrointestinal tract, and blood in her stomach from being in shock before she died, Perper said. Minor bruises on her back were from a previous fall in the bathroom, he said.
"There were no findings that would indicate continuing drug abuse," Perper said. He called the process a "medical puzzle" and said it would take three to five weeks to conclude the investigation.
Smith apparently had been sick for several days with some kind of stomach flu, Perper said.
Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger said investigators "found no illegal drugs, only prescription medicines" in Smith's hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. Nothing unusual was observed on hotel surveillance tapes, and there was no evidence to suggest a crime occurred, he said

The autopsy is complete, but no apparent cause has been discovered yet. They'll have to wait for the test results from blood and fluids that were tested.
Interesting note: I thought some reports from Thursday and early Friday (the day following her death) that illegal drugs HAD been found in her room. However, now (Friday afternoon) there are reports that NO illegal drugs were found in her room. It's just a bit odd.

According to the coroner a few minutes ago, cause of death has been undetermined yet. More extensive testing is needed. he did say Smith did not have a large quantity of perscription drugs in her stomach or blood. They still need to do more thorough testing on her heart, brain and spine.

they aren't sure yet... They did not find any tablets or pills in her stomach during the autopsy. But she could have dissolved them or taken a liquid form of pill.... I just watched the press show and the medical examiner is still unsure how she died.
She did have the flu when she died, and supposedly choked on her own vomit during seizures.
Very sad story..

Autopsy ruled out drugs and pills. I think it was pneumonia because I heard that her husband was saying that he was really concerned for her because she had a high fever. In Novermber she had pneumonia as well. I think she relapsed and died from it.

They still have to do an autopsy. All I know is that she collapsed at a hotel and her bodyguard administered CPR.

Since you have access to the internet, I'm assuming you have access to the news. In the news, you would find that NOBODY KNOWS YET. (sheesh! this has been a hard day)
