I didnt put a reserve price on my item as its the 1st time ive used it, its worth £100 and the highest bidder so far is £36, when I really wanted to sell it for roughly £60 - £70, if I get a friend to bid, will the moeny come out of there account or can they just be the highest bidder and the not activate the money transfer therefore not pay and I can keep my item????

Is this possible??

Money does NOT transfer automatically after a win. However, what you are purposing (having your friend bid in an effort to raise the price) is called "shill bidding" and is illegal. If you are caught you account can be revoked.

Whoever wins the item has a legal obligation to pay the seller (to close the deal). Paypal is one way. The Buyer sends electonically the money to the E-Mail address of the seller. The seller gets His/Her money into His/Her PayPa Account (less PayPals Fees) then the seller has the option to leave the money in thePAypal account to use on purchases or transfering the money (beware there is a charge for small amounts) to the nominated bank account. This process can take up to 9 working days if you are unlucky. If your friend bids (and wins) he must close the deal - he as the buyer will not incur any charges, but you will both from E-Bay as the seller and Pay Pal. You can then re-list the item with a reserve. of course your friend could be out bid then you must sell to the Higest bidder. From Experience most bidding activity come in the last few hours and gets frantic the last five minutes, i should not worry about the current low price.

If you did not set a reserve price, the one that you would not sell for unless you reached that amount, then whatever the highest bidder reached is the amount you can expect in your account.

I am a good buyer, meaning that when I know I have won a bid I pay it within hours. However, not all people pay everything the same day they won the auction at, or even the same week. I have recieved many feedbacks saying "thank you" because I have paid ( through pay pal) right then and there. That was the seller has their money and are free to start delivering the item to me.

Also, don't send the item unless you have gotten the money or pay pal money into your account. It is a common rip off for someone to win, you send the item, and then you never see your money,,,,,,either that or a bad check........I'm glad you use pay pal, they are really good about getting people's money to where it needs to go.

Yes you can get a friend to do it for you. There are some people who have done that when selling something that didn't bring what they wanted. Your friend doesn't have to pay you through PayPal as some sellers take money orders, cashier's check, and person checks. Even though eBay owns PayPal, they are still two separately run businesses. If eBay finds out you have done that, they can suspend your account. But it is hard to prove. The only thing you have to do is pay eBay for the listing fees, and their percentage of what the item sold for.

I suggest you withdraw the listing. I've seen it done before . It was a tortoise fossil that had a starting bid of 99p wth no reserve. Was easily worth £150,- so when, with 2.5 days of auction left it had only gotten to £18,- I was getting excited. Next time I looked it had been withdrawn. Don't think you can whitdraw a listing unless it has more than 24 hours on it though. You'd need to check out.
What you are suggesting e-bay has a name for and i do know it's against the rules.

Hi!

No the buyer has decide to pay via paypal and then has to activate the transfer themselves.

Just remember, a lot of activity happens within the last 30 minutes of any auction, so depending on when it ends, you may have some time to go yet.

You could 'insure' yourself by getting a friend to bid, but if you strictly adhere to the ebay rules, this isn't really allowed. But, hey, how would ebay know?

Get your friend to put in a bid for £60 and then any further bids have to beat that one. Hopefully someone will bid higher and you'll get your desired price!

Best of luck!

If your friend places a bid on ebay and wins, you end up paying for the ebay fees and your friend won't be charged for the item unless he sends money to your Paypal account. The buyer is the one responsible to initialize payment. It will not automatically come out of his bank account.

I would have thought you would have to send the money, otherwise how would your computer know how you are paying, eg. paypal, postal order, cheque.

You can get a friend to bid on the items when you need the bids to get higher. Of course you can always revise your item aswell.

Hope this helps :)

I can give you a link that deals with Payapl & Ebay transactions through Paypal. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at

DO not mess around with E bay or pay-pal if they find out what you are doing they will band you from ever using them again, and they might even get the police after for fraud, it just is not worth it, instead go to the site setting and click on end listing and see if that works.other wise you are going to have to go Thur with the listing, to bad you never used a reserve.
