I have put in a new radiator(it was leaking) and new thermostat. But the car still over heats. There is a noise coming from around the belt that sounds like bearing is going out. The temp has never gotten into the red and the car cools down when cruising. I have also made sure both fans and relays are ok. I just thought a water pump is eith good or bad. Any input? Water pump?

There is a way to check your water pump in a kinda of a round about way but only do the following when your car is NOT running.Grab a hold of the pulley on the front of the water pump,if you can move this pulley up and down or side to side a bit, that means your bearings on your pump are wearing out.Put in a new one!

Sounds like the bearing going out. But I bought a rebuilt starter from Auto Zone. Went home put it on and nada. I went back and had a defective starter. Won't be the first time. You might have a defective water pump. When they do go out, they may go out at once or if you are lucky like me they will gradually start to leak water.

As far as the overheating goes, cars will get hot to a certain degree. Just as long as it does not go in the red zone. Sounds like you got one of the older cars. It heats up and when the thermostat opens it cools down. Now, I presume you have put in a new water pump. If not, I would replace the water pump before it gets any worse. Get a flash light and look at the weep hole on top and see if you see any tell tale signs of water leaking. I did but it was minor. There is never supposed to be signs of water coming out of it. At the first sign, that is telling you time to replace the water pump.

TIP -- If replacing the water pump go ahead and replace the timing chain, if you have not replaced it in the last couple of years.

Did you make sure the fans actually come on at the proper temperature though?

Yes, the vanes in a water pump can wear to the point it is weak in that it doesn't more enough water.

What does your mechanic think?

I have had a water pump that was partially clogged. It was causing my truck to run a little warmer than normal. It is a possibility.
