Definitely black! Colors can play a big part in the first impression you make on the judges. Yes, it may be hot, but brown absorbs sunlight just as much as black, maybe just slightly less, but there isn't much difference. Black would go with red much better. When you wear brown, all I think of is blood and dirt, and they don't look well together, but when you put black with red, it says "here I am, look at me. I am ready for anything". Colors make more of an impact than you think!

You want your chaps to be in the same color scheme as your horse, that way it is more difficult for the judge to see your legs moving. Depending on how dark your horse is - I would go with a burgundy or brown. Black would definitely make the bottom portion of your legs easier to see move.

Please don't take offense at this, but it is a shame colors and fashion are so important in showing horses. Why not judge on the horse and rider's ability and skill instead of worrying about how much silver you have on your saddle and how your colors match? I know it's not you ... but I just wanted to vent.
By the way - I think black and light blue would look good .. but have you considered charcoal gray?

You could try sand colored chaps, and the sand colored hat also. It depends on where you are located, but it gets grusomely hot where I show, so I where the lighter colors. Black absorbs heat. As for your boots you could go with a brown or black.

A Very Dark brown and light blue and black and light blue would both look really good. I think that since your horse is a roan, then it should be a dark color......also what color is the tack.....................definitely take that into consideration...........

I say brown, to match with the horse. pick a nice reddish brown. if you are trying not to get hot by wearing brown, why wear black? black absorbes light and stores more heat from sunlight. plus, if you fall or get dirty, it will not show up so much if you wear brown.
but if you have ribbons though in the horse's mane and tail, pick whatever color the ribbons are.

I would either go brown or tan. A red roan would look nice with either. Outdoor shows are NO fun when you are wearing black.

I would say black to stand out against your horse, and also to catch the eye of the judges.

my horse is a bay and I have black stuff because it contrasts with her body and matches her mane/tail/etc. I ride engilsh but if you ride western I think that brown would look better.
