There is no one, definitive answer that applies to everyone. It affects different people in different ways. Some people can not only "handle" getting high, but it actually ENHANCES their abilities! On the other hand, some people's minds cannot seem to function under the influence. They become "brain-dead". Other factors also come into play: whether or not one has had enough sleep, is alcohol and/or other substances involved, age and experience with pot, the quality of the pot itself, etc., etc., etc.!!!!

First off, don't listen to drjen. Dropping acid is not a good alternative to cannabis, unless you enjoy the 50/50 chance of being permanently thrown back to the mental state of a toddler. My best friend's dad is 62 and is just now learning to read and speak again. He took a bad tab in the early 90's and is just NOW beginning to clear the fog.
Second, no it's doesn't make you any smarter. Only honest study of the world does that. Learning is still something that has to be done the slow old-fashioned way: By reading and asking questions. No one, anywhere, ever, has put out a joint knowing more than they did before they smoked it.
Third, pot DOES have the ability to unlock your creative brain's potential. Mostly because small details seem to jump out at you when you're high. I have ADD (Not ADHD, I'm not hyper at all) and the pot helps me focus my concentration, "like a laser beam" to quote Bart Simpson.
However. There are safer, less harmful, easier, cheaper and legal ways of doing so. Gingko and grape seed are two herbs that can improve your memory's ability to recall information, your concentration range, and your creative mind.
*edit*
Pat Z makes an excellent point. Smoking ANYTHING isn't good for you. Lungs aren't meant to inhale smoke. Ask any firefighter.
Brownies, or cookies, or teas are a great alternative. Except they take a lot of herb, so if you take this method be sure you have stocked up. Might be better to grow your own. A word of caution: Brownies and cookies STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN when they're baking. Ventilation will be your best friend.

most of these people clearly no nothing about pot smoking.
i wouldn't say it opens up your intelligence..maybe it will make you zone out on something a bit more and making you see it a bit more creatively..but it wouldn't make you a math genius nor will it give you the ability to build a rocket to fly into space. it will make you focus a bit more..that's all dependent on the smoker and how long they've been smoking. beginners tend to be paranoid and always skittish...a seasoned smoker is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay past that point and would actually be able to enjoy the feeling.
just like anything-if its used intelligently and without abuse-it has its rewards.

well for all you haters... here is a story.
i recently left my house to go smoke marijuana ciggeretes in my friends car. After we had finished i became "high". I went back into my house, and at that time i realized the importance of houses. No, not how they shelter you, but how they affect your mood and wellbeing. For example, whenever i stay at my home in my free time, i stay sane. Im not worried about anything, i just get stuff done and such. And whenever i visit my grandmothers house, i always feel warm and comforted. Whenever i go to the mall, i feel insecure. I would have never came to this conclussion unless i was high so i think it can unlock your inteligence along with make you forget stuff.

When I was high. I could paint paintings that were sold and won prizes in the county fair.with my paintings and crafts I made.such as ceramics and wood carvings.when I wasn't high they were really not all that good.OK. but not what i wanted.I could create and think of some wonderful things,I played guitar and sang in clubs and I was best when I was high.along with a few beers.I got very creative when I smoked pot. wish I still liked to get high, but the older I get the more I don't like changing my consciousness.much anyway, afraid I might lose it I guess.ha ha..Those few acid trips I did opened me to being psychic.Peace.

It unlocks your creative side. I liked smoking stupid sticks and I think I would have been way better off just not touching the stuff in the first place.

Of course not.....If that were true I'd be a friggin' genius....all kidding aside...pot DOES NOT unlock your intelligence. It actually kills your drive and ambition to do things.....and it tends make you put on weight from munching out all of the time.....However some people find it preferable to alcohol......I need to go now....I have a bag of Doritos to scarf down...and a snickers.....some ding dongs....pork rinds......

LOL, sure, you may think that WHILE smoking it, but in reality, it seperates the nerve endings in your brain causing you to become slowing and such. Eventually, after continued use for a while, you can become brain dead. I don't think there is anything intelligent about that!
