Because quite often - they don't use a real delivery address - or they use a postal box at a street address - like mailboxes plus. Also - they sometimes deliver to an address that they know no one is home at and then they go get it as soon as the delivery guy leaves it.

WOW I can't believe nobody figured this out. They got the delivery part right but not the ordering.

They use open wireless networks. They park in front of someones home with an unsecured network and place the order.

They don't like the coffee shops anymore because of security cameras. But they do in a pinch.

That is the #1 reason you want to have encryption turned on at home. So drive by's don't do illegal things on a network traced right back to your front door.

I agree, it seems stupid doesn't it. I was a victim of online fraud and I found out who it was, but the CID had to wait till the company the fraudster ordered from got intouch with them with the fraudster details in case the company felt harassed and closed down!! I lost £140!! I still don't know the outcome, it was about 6 years ago, doubt anything has been done the w@nker got away with it.

I do not understand it, too. I though that they could be traced through their IP addresses while ordering on-line. Even if they hide it with proxy, it still can be found.
As for the addresses, they often ask old people to deliver parcels and good for them (redeliver to yet another address). They pay them something and tell that their company is abroad and needs to use a redirection service. Because if they order computers on-line, they can't be delivered to a mail box!
