They don't care if it should or should not be legal. They are going to do what they want. That is up until the oversight came. Now they'll have to be more careful.

You forget one little tid bit of information, nobody had to distort anything Saddam Hussein was in violation of seventeen United Nations Security Council resolutions calling for disarmament . Bush could have gone in on that info alone he had full support from both parties ,Democrats like Nancy Pelosi,Bill and Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry , Ted Kennedy, and a who's who in the Democratic elite. I read the article and your question does not match the article...
"Gimble said that while the actions of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy "were not illegal or unauthorized," they "did not provide the most accurate analysis of intelligence to senior decision makers" at a time when the White House was moving toward war with Iraq."
The paragraph say that it wasn't "the most accurate analysis", they don't say distort or lie anywhere in the article. Now I admit I had to read to the THIRD paragraph to find this so maybe you didn't get that far.

in a nutshell it was a outright lie to the American people!action should be taken to dissuade any recurrence of this type(if you lie to a court of law you go to jail)i think something on the same lines or a sentance to fit the crime!
