a drummer a guitarist a bassist maybe a singer if one of the other three can't do it. Good songwriting capabilities, and a good voice to go along with it. guitars drums and amps. Maybe a P.A. umm extra strings and or guitars people who like you... not just your mom. And hopefully if you have all of these thigs you have a good band.

For a successful band, there needs to be a common goal. A recording contract, tours, local gigs, etc. All the members must make that their main priority. Everything else in their lives must revolve around this goal. Second, "too many chefs ruin the soup". There needs to be a designated leader, not a manager, but a member who takes care of scheduling shows, is a contact for the whole band and has the authority to make decisions for the band. Also there needs to be an open line of communication from all members, no matter what the problem, it needs to addressed and resolved before there is another practice. Everything else will follow. If your fan base sees that the band has no "drama" they will be more likely to spread the word about your project.

Well of course you are going to need members that have the ability to play guitar, drums, and sing.

But music is much deeper then just the physical members, you need heart, passion and an understanding of how music works. Music is its own language, so you need members who understand that language.

If you are concerned with who is going to play guitar and drums, you are at a very early stage of making a band. There is still a lot more ahead of you. But picking the right members will help your band grow.
