Unfortunately the US are a country driven by the media's greed. Talking bout death in Iraq doesn't sell anymore, politicians also do not want the people to think about it as a negative war where death and sorrow happens. Whatever event to make the people forget about it and focus on entertainment or whatever is good enough for them.
Anna's death is a god's sent money making gift the Media received and they will exploit it to the last penny, for the next few years.
When Pat Tillman died he was hailed as a hero, the Rambo of our times. Until the real truth came up about how his death was by his own comrads. The US then lay low, and didn't talk about their soldiers dying anymore.
Over 3000 soldiers died, over 30000 are handicapped and mutilated and will be affected for life...but that my friend doesn't sell paper.

People who are bad, screwed up, extreme etc get noticed and in the press and media get hyped a lot. People who live normal lives get neglected.
Sadly troops only hit the news when they die or are horribly maimed.
The whole thing is driven by the media. Let us hope that the media is better informed and controlled than in the days of Vietnam when they whipped anti war demonstrators up to the point where they spat on wounded GIs returning with limbs missing!!!!

People care more about celebrities than they care about regular people. It's just the stupid truth. I'm not one of these people who are obsessed with the military, but I think you make a good point. Remember Pat Tillman? He was a soldier who got recognition when he died. Because he was famous. No one cares if you live or die (unless you are a friend or member of their family) unless you're famous, and that's pretty much all there is to it.

No she didn't do anything for our country, but she's a celebrity, and the news just doesn't feel it's worthwhile to highlight every death of every soldier and citizen that did die for our country. That's just not news unless a whole bunch die at the same time.

its like comparing apples and oranges... u have war and political news...and then the mindless celeb news... both get their far share in the spot lite.

Because they didn't have their own TV show. They would get more recognition if we had hidden cameras in their showers so that we could fantasize about them.
