I think it would be a little bit unfair, but not as bad as some of the people are making it sound.

Maybe if the Bears or Patriots were playing their SB at home, it would seem even worse, because they are used to playing in frigid weather, high winds, and miserable conditions.

I don't think the crowd would be as much of a factor as other answers are making it sound. Most home games have an advantage because of all of the season-pass ticket owners and average local Joes going to games. It's a LOT harder and more $$$ to get Super Bowl tickets, though, so you wouldn't have as many fans as you usually would. Plus, the away team's fans would be willing to travel to see the game. I think it would probably be a 60-40 split between fans, and that isn't enough to make a huge difference.

The 49ers played in Stanford Stadium during one of their SuperBowls. It is 20 miles from Candlestick Park. They kicked hiney.

Edit - You folks don't think sleeping in your own bed the week leading up to the game is an advantage?

yes, it would be unfair because 3 points are awarded to the betting odds of the home team. It's possible that this could happen, but i would have to say that this would be unfair to the other team, even though their fans are given the same opportunities to get tickets as the other team.

of course it would be unfair because the whole concept of the Superbowl being played in a neutral site is that there is no home field advantage.

I would say that the home team would definitely have an edge. As far as I know it has never happened. I think possibly the NFL would have to change the location if it ever does happen.

Definitely. Home field advantage is huge in football. When a team is at home, they are used to the climate, weather, and fans. With the crowd on their side, it can create a lot less pressure than with a neutral crowd. (Not really neutral but you know what I mean)

would be fair

do you know how hard it is to get SB tickets....no guarantee that their would be more home fans anyway

even if there were more fans, the location's chosen years in advance because it takes years of preparation...they can't change the destination 2 weeks in advance
