absolutely! i have respect for certain muslims i know! i do not like the religion, but who the hell am i to judge? thye are decent hard working people who have dewcent morals, unlike some of the so-called CHRISTIANS who say if you do not think like them, then you wiil go to hell! in fact, it is the fundamental christians and people like them who are the problem in this country! shoving thier beliefs down others throats! they are extremely intolerant of other people! it is these people that jesus rebuked, saying, "get thee hence, for i never knew you"! religious bigots, like some fundamental christians are the worst people on earth! they use the name of god to make millions of dollars and do not take the time to help the homeless! not always true, what i am saying, but in most cases it is! respond to dandidonna@yahoo.com if one disagrees or has comment!

Respect is exactly the right word.
Actually you are on the edge of a very important philosophical discovery that refuted the concept of "Original Sin" in the Middle Ages:
Good things can come from bad situations.
It does not make the good thing any less good, but that does not justify the bad.
Ex: An abusive father may have had a great day taking his children to the beach. An alcoholic mother could have kept her children fed and cared for. Hitler was a vegetarian.
Obviously these are extreme examples but you get the idea.
Before this revelation many priests preached that we started out as sinful (even babies) because of The Fall and that we have to work hard to redeem ourselves.

Of course you can. That's what defines us as adults actually, is the fact that we can respect a person who disagrees with us, rather than "hating" them like a child would. I respect a great deal of people whom I don't necessarily agree with (and some I certainly don't like) We can at least be adult enough to be in the same room with each other with dignity and aplomb, without any back biting and certainly no foul language. Blessings.

I can disagree with someones beliefs and even love them. Yes you can respect others for being human if nothing else. I don't agree with some of what President Bush says but I respect him. I didn't agree with most of what President Bill Clinton did or said but I still respect him. Understand what I'm trying to say? Hope so. I loved my mother and did not agree with her beliefs. (she is dead now.)

Yes, I have respect for a lot of our leaders even though I don't agree with their choices or decisions. I have respect for people like Rosie O'Donnel and Barbara Streisand, even though I don't like their opinions or ways they go about things. People should learn to look past ideas to the person behind those ideas. I know a lot of great people, that don't share my religious, political or personal beliefs. But hey, they are nice people and we get along.

Yes, most definitely. I can respect someone with different beliefs. I t would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything.

Of course. I respect the President, but I do not know him enough to like him. And I certainly do not agree with him on certain issues. But I respect him and his ability to make choices and do whats right.

I think that everyone should be given a measure of respect to start off with. Basic human decency. Then, based on their behavior, respect can be lost or gained in the mind, but that basic level of common decency and politeness should be maintained. It would solve a lot of petty problems.

Yes its called respecting them as a human being. There are people out there that we can never see eye to eye on anything but its important not to cross that line of degrading them simply because they disagree with your point of view.
