"Liberals hate America." You bet we do. That's exactly why we try to protect the constitution, give everyone an equal opportunity, and not kill thousands in a pointless oil war. It's so unpatriotic for us to question our president. What do you guys think America is? A democracy or something?

Well, I'm not one who says things like that, but I do understand where the conservatives who say such things are coming from.
In all truth, neither the conservatives NOR the liberals uphold the Constitution perfectly. BOTH groups tend to distort it to fit their agenda, and BOTH groups accuse the other of doing so.
That said, here are the two things that conservatives mainly have a problem with the liberals about:
1. The whole separation of church and state thing. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that we have freedom FROM religion. We have freedom OF religion. This means that if a town decides to display a nativity scene during the Christmas season, they should be able to do so. This means that if a group of students wants to pray before a football game, they should be able to do so. If it is decided by a township to display the Ten Commandments in their courthouse, there is NO REASON whatsoever why they shouldn't be able to. If a student wants to thank God in her valedictorian speech, the ACLU should not be able to come in and shut her down (this actually happened.).
2. The other problem is with the right to bear arms. Now, just so you know, I am for moderate gun control. But I understand where the conservatives are coming from on this one. The Constitution does say that the populace is allowed to have guns. I don't think this means that everyone should have an fully automatic assault weapon, but it does mean that there's no reason why a person can't have a few guns, so long as they have a license to own one, and have taken safety classes in the handling of a gun.
So now you know.

1. Separation of church and state. The First Amendment clearly states that the government shall not establish a national religion nor prohibit the free exercise thereof. The ACLU and the Courts have used this made up concept to remove religion, specifically Christianity, from the public square.
2. Equal protection clause-each citizen is equal. Taxing someone because they make a certain amount of money is wrong.
3. The whole war on terror. Liberals have lied about why we went to war, interfered with the President doing his job as commander in chief.

The first answerer explains where the mentality comes from... they kind of have this concept that everyone else's existence is an infringement of their rights. There are poor people... you can't tell me that EVERY poor person is poor by choice, it is simply impossible for anyone to believe that. It is the government's right to tax you to pay for necessary programs, and it is the government's duty to make sure its citizens don't starve to death. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say you have the right to live without a government. Go found your own nation if you don't like it. Watch out though.. you'll probably get sanctioned if you treat poor people in your nation how you want them to be treated in the U.S.
For once I agree with Meathook... both sides act unconstitutionally, even when they at times have overwhelming support for what they want to do. It's kind of funny that we find our Constitution too sacred to change, so when we should amend it, we simply choose to ignore it.
spanky, the specific separation of church and state is not listed in the Constitution, but it is a necessary measure to protect people's right to worship as they please, which IS in the Constitution, and forbids Congress from making laws "respecting an establishment of religion". A later amendment makes the bill of rights applicable to the States as well, so the Separation of Church and State IS specifically in the Constitution, in different words.

When our government was set up it was based on the philosophy of the lest government interference. The libs try to make everything and everyone equal by installing laws that take from the people who are doing good (such as big business and people who have good marketable skills) and give it to the people who do not deserve it. By doing this they are destroying the free enterprise and the ability of people to get ahead. They are also trying to ban guns or put unrealistic restrictions on them which is against 2nd amendment. The there is the Pro Choice issue which is legalized murder. Kevorkian can't assist with suicides of people who express their desire to die but doctors can take the life of a person with no ability to defend themselves. They are trying to remove the bible from schools while here in Ca. some districts have made 1 week of Islamic study in public schools mandatory. There is bad on both sides but the liberals try to accomplish more government by sneaking in laws under false pretenses or using scare tactics. Look at global warming and you should be able to understand what I am talking about.

Dirty bird's answer confuses me.
Does it mean he is pro-choice?
Anyway - repubs will you at least admit that the democratic party is the decendents of Thomas Jefferson's prevailing philosophies while the Republican Party is decendents of Alexander Hamilton?
Hamilton the guy who proposed the country should at least have a king. Started the first national bank and wrote the first American doctrine on how running a national debt is good for our national interests???
Jefferson the guy who wrote the Declaration of Independence and helped draft the Constitution. Who defied the national bank and prized personal liberty and freedoms over all other interest!?
I would like to hear anyone defy this statement..........

They have a problem with the Second Amendment. How come the liberala never take their ideas through the ballot box but instead circumvent the people and go through the courts for their ideas such as abortion?

OMG...I thought this was a forum to discuss or answer questions on issues, not bash each other.
Both parties have done their best to change or tweak the constitution to there benefit. The bottom line is this.
In the last 100years our economy has seen a 1800% growth in GDP, and America is at a rate of full employment. I would say it is working and leave it alone. No matter what any party does, there willl be those who feel slighted or left behind. You wil never be able to please everybody.

1. Liberals are trying to take away our right to freedom of religion by not allowing us to pray in public schools, not allowing us to thank God in our graduation speeches, and not allowing us to display Christmas scenes. Taking away these rights violates the 1st Ammendment.
2. Liberals are trying to take away our right to own guns by putting ridiculous restrictions on them. This is a violation of the 2nd Ammendment.
3. Affirmative action makes race and gender a factor in hiring for jobs and accepting students into colleges. This is illegal according to the 14th Ammendment.
4. Liberals want to tax the hard working middle class citizens (the "rich") and give it to the lazy and shiftless (the "poor"). This is a complete disregard of the 10th Ammendment, and a slap in the face to the leaders who fought communist U.S.S.R for 73 years.
Aviator, WTF are you talking about? Are you one of those lazy people?

Liberals are trying to uphold the constitution!!
Reps. and those in this administration would imprison citizens if it means they could make a nickle!!
