I give it to KG....I'm sorry but this Legend is way overmatched. Could you imagine a 7ft & 253 lb., hard playing, agile as a guard, with skills like a shooting guard, POWER FORWARD(that could play center) determined GIANT like KG matched up with a 6ft9 & 220lb, not as athletic, alot more stiff, but determined, hard playing, with a mean streak, SMALL FORWARD like Larry Bird.
Now you Larry fans please don't mention rings and don't be bias. Because Boston done alot more for Larry then what Minnesota's done for Garnett. Larry had loyal TOP 50's, HOF's, & and players that was good enough to win finals mvp on his team(Larry didn't get finals mvp for all 3 of his titles). While Garnett's help was average players crying about contracts.
If KG & Bird matched up it'll be a miss match. It'll be like how the more athletic, bigger, Lennox Lewis used his long armed jab against Holyfied. I seen Bird shoot over alot of people, but he couldn't shoot over a faster, more athletic, 7ft. GIANT like KG.

I would have to go with Larry, in terms of overall playing on the court, leadership, and consistency.

If you are talking one-on-one, in a game to 20 points, it would be very close, but I would go with KG.

Love these young-ins, But B-Ball is a team sport, and Larry Bird certainly made the Celtics a great team 1779 - 1992.
Bird personified hustle, consistency and excellence in all areas of play--as a scorer, a passer, a rebounder, a defender, a team player, and, perhaps above all, as a clutch performer.
With Bird, the Celtics won 3 NBA titles, and 10 Atlantic Division crowns.

Here are some other accomplishments:

Honors: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1998); NBA champion (1981, '84, '86); NBA Finals MVP (1984, '86); NBA MVP (1984, '85, '86); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); All-Defensive Second Team (1982, '83, '84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Olympic gold medalist (1992).

Garnett is a good player, but no where near the type of player Larry Bird was!!!!!

And just look at his stats!

Sorry, Bird, hands down!

And didn't Lennox get rocked by Oliver McCall???

I am fan of Garnett and I actually have his rookie jersey at home...but I have to give this one to Larry Bird. KG is agile and that's all he really has against bird. Bird I think has better basketball IQ than KG and a way better shooter. Both have their own perspective post moves and I would even go as far as saying both are equally strong defenders. Even though Bird was much slower, his basketball IQ allowed him to defend better than what people give him credit for. Defending is really not just physical (fast and tall), you also need smarts (remember Bird stealing from Isiah during the '87 Eastern Final?).

It is pretty close because I consider both Franchise player. And if KG has the same players as bird, I'm sure he will a title also. But there is just something about Bird that you fear...trust me, being a Lakers fan, you believe the Lakers will win all the time but you fear Bird and what he could do. I just don't see that in KG unfortunately.

Larry Bird is the greatest. Forget about the rings. He has 3 MVP's. And if you say he had all this talent on his team than it means even more when you are the best on a very talented team. How many MVP's do Kevin Have....Big fat Zero!!! Who has made more clutch shot's when it counts? Larry. Kevin is a better athlete and has great stat's, but Larry Stat's are even better.

lol. u have to be kidding. i like garnett alot and he will be known as a great basketball player when he retires, but larry bird was better by far. larry is the one of the top 5 to 10 basketball players to ever play. garnett may be not even be in the top 10 if you were to rank the best players now, maybe 10 but larry was better in his prime.

One on one... I like KG. He's just an incredible athlete, hard-worker, good teammate, and charismatic.

Larry Bird was the same, except he wasn't as fast or could jump as high. But, Larry Bird was one of the best shooters ever. Also, I think he was smarter too. Clutch shooting and smarts seperate Bird as a winner.

In a team game, I like Bird. In a game of one on one, it's KG...no doubt.

I would give it to Bird - it would be close. But Bird shot was Money from everywhere, inside, outside, DOWNTOWN! KG has a good mid-range shot and inside game. One-on-one I'd go with Bird. Sure KG is a good defensive player, but Bird was a GREAT offensive player.

BIRD the Legend
