In their respective primes (favre mid 90s, Elway late 80s) who was the better Football player?
I think they are a great comparison, similar mobility, and the strongest arms in the league at the time (although, truth be told, Elway had a stronger arm than anyone, ever).
In their primes these were probably the two most tremendous forces ever to play the positions, fast-moving cannons who could win games almost by themselves. Elway's teams in the late 80's sucked, but he still took them to the SB. Favre's team in 95 was better, but not a great team by any stretch.
Who would you pick, why? Remember, this is not about careers, stats, or rings, this is about who was the better player at the peak of their physical powers.

Elway was never surrounded with great players for the first 10 years of his career. It wasn't until they finally dumped Dan Reeves did the Broncos put together the right combo to compete for a SB championship. Elway 87 did more for his Broncos than Favre 95 for the Packers. Both great QB's but I'd take Elway over Favre straight up.

While I would rank Favre and Elway #1-2 QB's of all time, I think Favre in the mid 90's, at least in my opinion, was some of the greatest I've ever seen. The guy threw 35+ TD's, very few interceptions, had next to no one on the team and carried a playoff/superbowl winning team on his back.

The guy couldn't be stopped. No one had more more fun out there either.

People dont realize that uhhh Elway SUCKED for about the first ten years of his career. I think that his qb rating going into one of his first three superbowl lossed was worst than rex grossman's. Also, the reason for all those 4 quarter comebacks is because he's the reason they were behind in the first place.

Brett Farve hands down, and this comin from a bears fan.

Elway will never be considered a man after his little crying tantram after lossing to Cal. That being said, Favre by default.

No offense, but it shouldn't be close.
Brett Favre.......for a number of reasons.
With the biggest being
**Pocket Presence!
He still doesn't have to be mobile, he can make 5 defenders miss him and stay in the pocket.
