I know my doctor will answer this soon but I just wanted to get some thoughts from others that may have experience or medical knowledge.
I had hernia surgery almost 3 months ago. It was a tear in my abdomen that was repaired.
My doctor told me no gym, golf, etc.. for about three months. I go back to see him next week and last time I was there a month ago he said he would probably clear me this next time I am there.
Three months after the surgery how much has it probably healed? I know doctors like to be safe for good reason but how long after this type of surgery are things pretty much healed? Should I feel safe going back to doing normal things? He cleared me 5 weeks ago to start doing light weights/exercises but I have been good and done nothing. Didn't want to risk it.
Thanks for any info, advice or experience.

Different people heal at different speeds. The type of hernia and the extent of repair done also determines the length of the healing process. I have had two inguinal hernia repairs and after about 2-3 months I was back to normal activities. You don't want to go into a full blown work-out regimen until you know for certain that your body is able to handle it. Hope you feel well.

Healing is a very complex process that involves:
1) nutritional state of the person (worse the nutrition, the slower the healing)
2) whether the person has any chronic diseases (diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and others can prolong healing)
3) the type and size of the wound to be healed (the larger the wound, the longer it takes to heal)
In general a wound from a hernia surgery will heal enough to go back to regular activities after 3 months and your doctor was right in clearing you for light weights and exercises 5 wks previously. Although your wound will have healed enough to prevent reopening within the first 3 months, the entire healing process won't be complete until about 2 years after surgery (so your scar will continue to change until about that point). This is because your body overcompensates and builds up scar tissue beyond the amount that is needed and then proceeds to break down the excess tissue.

I would gradually take it slow, and put aloe vera gel on the
stitched area (the real plant is better)
