Criminals no longer have education paid for by the federal government.

It is too bad, because a good friend of mine got his degree in prison and he is now quite an upstanding citizen. He developed a drug problem after his mother and girlfriend were killed and he stole to support it, after he was fired.

Any citizen and even some non-citizens has/have the advantage of getting loans, grants, and scholarships (depending on income and academic achievement).

Also, prisoners families or their illegal activities in prison have to support him or her getting basic toiletries like soap, toothpaste, etc. Usually a prisoner's family is so poor they don't have money to support him or her in prison..

Basic support is available to people not in the prison system in the form of employment compensation, AFDC (welfare I think or the dole or whatever you may want to call it), and charity.

I must say that people such as yourself have made it hard to get the above. I have always been well off. I have worked with many charities and I see many honest, hard-working people turned away thanks to the new laws and reforms by increasing conservatism.

Medical care is very bad in prisons, especially in women's prisons...Believe me, they only get the bare minimum, and most women prisoners don't get that.

There are many democracies, but what makes America the greatest is our basic humanity. Yes, that means people many people wish would "disappear": people who have committed crimes, immigrants, minorities, people of different sexual orientations, animals, the innocent and the guilty, etc. Morality and humanity are not limited to a few choice individuals.

The individual should be responsible for him or her self in this society, but the fact of the matter is that there are many people here with complex problems. These individuals are usually in complex family and community settings, which exacerbate these problems.

We all know you pay on the front end or the tail end. Our society has chosen to give support a prison system rather than social programs that would help. It is more expensive to house/keep persons in prisons than to have programs to prevent them from being there.

I contend that the new social programs would focus on helping the individual and his family be greater parts of society, like teaching parents how to help their children with homework or using things like The Sedona Method or Creating Power programs.

I think people like you must face that everyone here doesn't "have it together", even when it comes to basic values. And you must realize that we will pay for these people either after they have committed all the wrong in the world or before it.

Someone in prison also doesn't have the right to vote, freedom of movement, privacy in correspondence...smoking is banned, pornography for the most part is banned.

I get what you are saying but there is more to it. As for the schooling, every kid in the US is guaranteed an elementary education. In prison, one can get their GED which is considered part of reform. If they want to pursue a college degree, they are on their own and have to do it via the Internet or correspondence and are personally responsible for dues or tuition. What I'm saying is that a prisoner isn't getting anymore of a free primary education than anyone else in the US.

I really don't think you have been to a Prison before. They are far from free.

Depending on your crime, you will have certain "yard" hours to go out and exercise. Which is like an hour or so. Then you spend your day in a large room, with men (or women) that want to make you their new best friend, with benefits.

Not to mention that danger is around every corner and in the pants and hands of every inmate.

Their shelter isn't as safe as you like to think....

Your question makes no sense whatsoever. The underlying principle here is that we treat people with dignity. Criminals do not forfeit their constitutional rights. That creates a way of treating prisoners that is humane. Why is that a problem? Now, people who are free are not really nannied in this nation. Are you suggesting a better welfare system for the poor? Help me understand you.

That is wrong, it's the liberals and the ACLU
that treat these criminals better than the
average American.
