The word 'rebel' is a shortened form of rebellious (or rebellious is the adjective for the noun...whichever). They are basically the same thing. A rebel is one who does their own thing and in a society such as ours, where conformity rules, you are looked upon as rebellious if you form your own thoughts and opnions. (or if you do you own thing!)

When I think of a rebel, I think of someone who went against the grain and did things in an unconventional way. That is a form of rebellion...that is what rebellion boils down to.

I don't see how one could be a rebel without rebelling in some form or fashion.
