Actually there were 2 U.S. Presidents and 1 Confederacy President. Of course Lincoln was assassinated and Johnson became President. Johnson was the first President impeached, the vote failed. Later he was voted to the U.S. Senate from the state of Tennessee.

Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederacy was imprisoned for two years and was also elected to be a U.S. Senate again.

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14th, 1865 and died the next morning
Jefferson Davis was eventually captured by Union soldiers in Mississippi and sent to prison and lost his citizenship until his death
the Emancipation Proclamation was a document proclaimed by Lincoln which stated that by January 1, 1863 slaves in the south were hereby freed. This was a great political strategy by Lincoln because the Republican were being hurt in the polls by Northern democrats who opposed the war and abolitionists eho abhorred slavery as an affront to God and humanity. This strategic move tied up two important opponents of Lincoln because it hurt Northern Democrats because it gave the Union a new purpose to fight the warand abolitionists because he did what their main platform had been for years that is the end of slavery.
