I have purchased from http://www.xlpharmacy-rx.com for years and they avoid that problem by getting you to fill out an online questionaire and they send the prescription with the medication for no extra charge.

They are allowed to buy drugs there if they get a prescription from a Mexican doctor. It's easy with a prescription from an American doctor. I would think its easy even with out an AMerican doctor. Its cheaper in Mexico. Drug company sells the drugs to third world nations at a discounted price. Americans are mad, but its kind of socialistic way of handling drugs sales. Drug company sells to Mexico at the cost of production plus extra for profit. THird world has a hard enough time paying for that. This is also partially done because other drug company pump out knock offs even before the patent expires(in the Developed world) . Patent law is different in some countries so they can get away with pouching. When drug companies sell to the developed world they sell with maunfacturing cost, research and a small amount of profit. Research is extremely expensive, especially if you figure in all the failures a drug companies have in producing drugs. That is why there is a huge difference in cost between the U.S. and Mexico. It is affecting US pharmacies, but not as much as Canada. The law was made so someone can get an emergency prescription when traveling. Also remember when you travel, you need to be able to carry your prescription from country to country. I know people are abusing it, but the alternatve is worse. If your on a cruise and accidentally lost your prescription, don't you want to be able to refill it when you enter port.

It can be bought over the counter in Boot's, BUT you have to have a consultation with the pharmacists.
There are also some online pharmacies that employ qualified and registered doctors, who after an online 'consultation' provide a script that is then honored by that pharmacy. Follow pharmacies that are accredited by the VIPPS or Vet-VIPPS programs .

ordering drugs online can cut costs considerably. A Consumer Reports study found that savings can reach 25% or more.
The key, experts say, is to shop around and to stay away from the often pricey sites that offer to sell "lifestyle" drugs such as Viagra and Propecia without a visit to your doctor's office. Those sites can charge as much as double the usual cost of such drugs.

Don't forget to include shipping expenses in your online prescription comparisons. Although the cost of delivery by standard mail is nominal at many sites, and free at others, it can become quite expensive if you need overnight delivery.
Generic drugs are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have the investment costs of the developer of a new drug. New drugs are developed under patent protection. The patent protects the investment--including research, development, marketing, and promotion--by giving the company the sole right to sell the drug while it is in effect. As patents near expiration, other manufacturers can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions. Because those manufacturers don't have the same development costs, they can sell their product at substantial discounts. Also, once generic drugs are approved, there is greater competition, which keeps the price down. Today, almost half of all prescriptions are filled with generic drugs.

Some of them have physicians who "review" your history and symptoms, and the "prescribe" the drugs.....quite honestly the whole business is shady, and unsafe.
Same thing happens when you cross the bored from the US to Mexico - you go to the store, pick out the drugs you want and then a pharmacist will write the prescription on site.
I wouldn't take anything that didn't come directly from a pharmacist after being prescribed by my physician.

I don't know about the "on-line" pharmacies but I stock up with stuff like derivatives of penicillin when I go to Spain. It is very cheap and is usually the same make as i would get in UK.

in the US pharmacies are allowed to sell non-controlled substances online.
you need to get an 'online prescription' first which is a bit in the 'grey area'
i've never had a problem though - been buying from http://wellness-pharmacy.com for a couple years. everything seems legit.

I guess that would depend upon the drug. What's sold over the counter in one place, may need a prescription in another.
