OMG the answers are a bit much It can be hurtful to hear a racial slur, but by being more mature , you indeed are the stronger. rise above ignorance. Hate will only bring you down.

well if you retaliat you will still get the bad end of the stick because when the police will show up and beat your head in for trying to explain what happened and when they cuff you they will beat you some more and tell you to stop resisting while your cuffed!so what you have to do is play by play. how ever your opperser is actinc you just stay cool until it's time to not be cool and hope someone has a video camera when the cops show up.

I just ignore it if its a very public place, like at the mall and there are a lot of people, Id rather not make a scene. If its inside a little shop or something, I go nuts haha. And it depends on what insult is and if it is meant seriously or as a harmless joke.

it depednds on what race you are. if your black, don't go make a huge scene, becuase then it will give black people a worse reputation than they already have. If your white, let it slip. ppl callw hites racist, but we get called names all the time. ignore it, whatever it is. don't give your race a bad rep

i really don't get any but if i did encounter one i would stop it on the spot, people just have to put themselves in the shoes of the person they are insulting and image it being done to them or their family.

Confront them. I will call them on their behavior. If it's a store or restaurant. I will not spend my money in their business anymore. If anyone call me the n-word, I will kicked their as*.

Pick your battles. If they are past the point of ignorance, **** it. Detach yourself. Usually I ignore people but there have been times when I've chosen to say something about it. Question people and make them see that their ideas don't make any sense. Or you could just blow off some steam and say "go **** yourself you ignorant wench".

None has dared to say anything DIRECTLY to me. However, I do live in a liberal city and the people are pretty civilized overall.
