Or about 4 pounds? (Two jumbo bags of it, I think.)

This may sound weird, but it's to help me figure out how many m & m's are in a jar (it's a contest) at my college.

Any ideas?

peanut or regular? one regular m&m is about .9 grams, and doing a lot of math comes up with approx. 2000 m&ms

3.8 lb = approx. 1723.651 g
divide 1723.651 by .9 equals approx. 1963

I don't know the answer, but I have an idea on how to deduce one.

Figure out how many candies are in a bag by checking
1. how many candies per serving
2. how many servings per bag
Multiply that answer to get how many candies per bag

Now check the weight on that bag... That's the key. Then multiply to figure out how may candies are in 4 lbs.

It's not an exact science, you'll be a few candies off, but you'll be very close.

Hope that helps.

buy a small bag, count the number in the bag, and then multiply them expedentially.. ie.. if a 3 oz bag has 200, then a 3.8lb has...3720.. I have made these figures up, but it is easy to calculate...
3.8 lbs is equal to 56 ounces, divide 56 by 3 and them multiply by 200..but substitute the actual number in the small bag, ie
56 divided X ounces, multiplied by X number in the bag
