St. John's Wort works for me. They say it doesn't work with serious depression though. And in any case, you need to experiment a little to find out what works best for you -- there's no single 'best'.

Aww honey, don't get all caught up in that stuff. Once you start taking something to relieve youself of the way you feel, you will probably find yourself taking some kind of medication or "herb" for a very looong time. I don't think this is what you want, because in the end you realize you didn't really overcome the problem, only prolonged it. Once you stop, it will probably come right back, and even worse than before.

There are a lot of things you can do to avoid depression. A lot has to do with an attitude adjustment. I would also suggest talking to a psychologist or a close friend to help you overcome whatever you are going through. Take up a new hobby, met some new people. All of these things will help you. Anything else isn't truly getting rid of your problem, unless you don't want to end it and just avoid it for now. If that is the case, then I hope you will change your mind! Good luck!

p.s., weed wont help. It will for a while, but eventually you will find yourself needing it just to live. Don't do that to yourself!

Every human being is unique, each reacts differently to different medications. So the answer to your question is, the best anti-depressant is the one that works for you. It can take some time and patience to find the one that works best for you. The best person to see to get an anti-depressant is a psychiatrist, as general practitioners generally don't have the same knowledge base regarding these drugs as a psychiatrist does.

Have a religion which aims to help oneself and others in need make a person in deep depression feels not just valuable to himself and people around him but a new direction in life..
