When I was pregnant with my first I fell so badly that they thought I may have broken my ankle so I had to have it xrayed. The double lead jacketed me for it (turned out just to be a VERY bad sprain thankfully), but my son was fine. You already had the x-ray so don't worry about it. And technically if you're at two weeks you'll only be ovulating just about now because pregnancies are counted from the first day of your last period, if you're just about to test then you are actually 4 weeks pregnant.

Actually I did some research on this 11 years back when I was pregnant and suffered an injury that required an X-ray. The chances of a fetus getting radiation poisoning from a normal X-ray is relatively slim, and even lower when precautions are taken. If a mother's health is suffering, there is always a question as to what is better-- giving the mother treatement at the risk of the fetus, or not giving the mother treatment which can put the mother, or both the mother and fetus, at risk. Options have to be considered, and risks have to be weighed. But you do bring up a good point... I wonder if people who think the rights of the mother being the owner of her own body outweigh the rights of the fetus believe things like smoking, recreational drugs or alcohol use is acceptable. I just don't think certain medical procedures (X-rays, surgery, medication, etc.) to preserve the health of the mother during pregnancy are the same thing or can qualify as immoral, even if the worst case scenario happens and it affects the fetus.

So many people worry about "oh I did this or that" before I found out! It's very normal to feel scared, but really absolutely nothing to worry about. If you were getting xrays everyday, that's another thing, tho! You can't change the past, but from now on let anyone doing a procedure on you know that you might be pregnant. Good luck and congrats. And don't worry.

According to a study first published last year in the Journal of the American Medical Association, there is a direct relationship between low birth weight and dental X-rays taken during pregnancy. In fact, the study authors asserted that if all dental X-rays were avoided during pregnancy, the incidence of small babies could be reduced by as much as 5 percent.

one day my chest was hurting and i went to the doctor .... the were going to do and x-ray but when they asked are you pregnant they didnt take one... so i dont think its a good thing... i dont know why though so here is some research for you:

It depends on the type of X-ray you need and exactly how much radiation you're going to be exposed to. The greater your exposure to radiation, the greater the risk to your baby. Most diagnostic X-rays (dental X-rays, for example) do not expose the fetus to high enough levels of radiation to cause a problem. While fetal exposure over 10 rads (the unit of measurement for absorbed radiation) has been shown to increase the risks for mental retardation and eye abnormalities, you needn't worry.

It's rare for a diagnostic X-ray to exceed 5 rads.

good luck.

Well since it already happened just relax and try not to worry about it. In the future, just let any doctor that is going to do a medical procedure on you know that you are trying to get pregnant. Good luck!

The x-rays you get at the dentists are actually pretty weak, relative to other x-rays. And since I'm sure they put that lead apron over your body, I'm sure your baby will be fine. When you go for your first pre-natal check up you can ask your doctor about it - I'm sure she'll say you're fine, too.

Yes, just tell your doctor and tell the dentist you are pregnant. If you can wait until the second trimester then wait. That is the best time for that.

Ooooh sorry- you HAD it done already, my apologies. If they put the iron drape over you you should be fine.

If you are pregnant let your OB know you had an exray and then avoid them for the rest of the pregnancy.
