Some people have suggested to just stay away from them for awhile. WRONG! That is what splits families up. Your kids are starting to really develop their personal and social life right now, and you need to respect that. But never stay away from them. They like to spend time with their friends, but you can make that family time. Bowling is a great family sport, as everyone can stay near each other and be involved in something together, where going to an arcade, although it's fun for them, isn't the best choice, as you are more likely to see your kids be spread out and not talking to you. If there is ever a day with bad weather, and your kids like video games, you need to play with them, but try to avoid games where you can get upset. For example, if one of them looses at football, that can lead to a brawl, but, if you are doing a game where all family members are on a single team, you can participate together.
Whatever you do, it is SO important with the world as it is now to spend time with your kids, no matter what the age.

Try going to a video arcade/pizza place for a family night.
Set one night per week where the whole family goes out to dinner somewhere, and each week one of the kids gets to pick where to go.
Start a family game night. Or go to the movies on the weekends together.
Whatever it is, just make sure that it is something that they are going to have fun with. And if you have to, every once in a while let one of their friends tag along, so they have someone else their age around.

Do your children participate in any extra curricular activities? If they do, make it a family affair. Everyone comes to show support. If they do not, find an extra curricular activity they are interested in. Soccer, Baseball, Go-Kart Racing (boys love it), Golf, etc. Or you can all volunteer 1 hour every Saturday at the local hospital, retirement home or animal shelter. Besides family time, volunteering is a selfless act of compassion.

Tell me what's new???
Welcome to life.
Well I teach my kids from My book of bible stories and they get to have a say with open questions that I ask them.
But to make the studies interesting I take them to nice locations for their studies. Like the park, beach, parking lot of a busy public shopping movie areas, etc, or up on the mountains (not too high).
They are serious and loving and look forward to their studies and then they come back to being their own sibling selves.
In time I have noticed the changes it's not as harsh as before.

board games, & card games are always fun.
Charades might me fun.
Pizza making is really neat. Get some pizza dough, split it up into the # of people, shred some cheese, and make available toppings of their chosing. Then let them make individual pizzas - together! After dinner, do the same thing with ice cream, like a ice cream buffet. You could have contests like strangest combinations. Then make cleaning up fun, get messy and laugh.
Laugh! Laugh! memories are in the making!

take them to a theme park or a movie, one that THEY would like. Taking them to a restraunt on a Friday or Saterday night would just piss them off. they could be hanging out with friends. do something in doors. my family LOVES to play scene it, pictionary, guesstures. a fun thing to do is renting snowmobiles or now i guess motocross bikes and riding up the hills on a track. thats always fun. be creative. but don't make them do anything that they don't wanna do. that will just create a bad cituation for your family

To be honest they are just going through that phase where thye don't want to be with their parents. Don't make them do things with you it will just push them away. Give it time and they will be happy to spend time with you again
