"The Last Day Of Summer" by The Cure from the album Bloodflowers. If you're in a sad mood no one tops The Cure...period.
Nothing i am
nothing i dream
nothing is new
nothing i think or believe in or say
nothing is true
it used to be so easy
i never even tried
yeah it used to be so easy...
but the last day of summer
never felt so cold
the last day of summer
never felt so old
never felt so...
all that i have
all that i hold
all that is wrong
all that i feel for or trust in or love
all that is gone
it used to be so easy
i never even tried
yeah it used to be so easy...
but the last day of summer
never felt so cold
the last day of summer
never felt so old
the last day of summer
never felt so cold
never felt so...
To Wish Impossible Things
Remember how it used to be
when the sun would fill up the sky
remember how we used to feel
those days would never end
those days would never end
remember how it used to be
when the stars would fill the sky
remember how we used to dream
those nights would never end
those nights would never end
it was the sweetness of your skin
it was the hope of all we might have been
that fills me with the hope to wish
impossible things
but now the sun shines cold
and all the sky is grey
the stars are dimmed by clouds and tears
and all i wish
is gone away
all i wish
is gone away
all i wish
is gone away

"Song Sung Blue" by Neil Diamond.
By the end, he might even trick you into feeling curiously better
Song sung blue, weeping like a willow,
song sung blue, sleeping on my pillow.
...
But when you take the blues and make a song,
you sing them out again!
Otherwise the whole album "Blue" by Joni Mitchell. Great songwriter, composition and exquisite vocals. Album is about longing and loss and missed opportunities and love, yet not gloomy... sometimes really fun. I love the song "California" about the mixed emotions of missing a loved one that might not love you anymore, nut the sacrifice of leaving a life and friends behind to go be with the person you miss and hope to share reciprocal love.

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. Clapton made that song after his son died. I listen to that song a lot after my father died just last year. I still shed a tear everytime that song plays because I remember my father whom I love so much. The song is about a father asking his son if they will still know each other when they see in heaven. It really hits the spot for me since I miss my dad so much.
