Any moms know when I can expect real labor to start? 3 cm dialated/ 50% effaced.

If you want the real labor to start right away, I would say to start walking. Walking will make the contractions closer together and it will help you to dialate more.
With my second child, I was the same way. I started contracting but not enough and was only 4 cm dialated so I got sent home. Then my aunt took me for a long walk. When I went back to the hospital I was up to 9 cm and had the baby the same night. Trust me, if you want an easy labor, walk, walk, walk....Good luck and Congrats!!!

I agree with sailor_ch.

You will start to feel uncomfortable when the time gets closer, sit in the tub for a while, this will help with the pain (not really). But you do want to get as much exercises as possible, walk, have sex (i did for my first born and i was in labor for 4 hours and pushed once, it was great I wasn't even in pain nor did i feel my contractions), although everyone is different.

if your water breaks, go to the hospital, it doesn't nec. mean your baby will come as soon as you think or would like. No matter how close or far apart the contractions are you really don't know until you feel like you have to push and you feel like you have to take a crap. Then you'll know your baby is coming. Good luck

I am no expert but if you are have real contractions then i would say you are already in labour.. Do you mean active labour? When you reach 4cm or more.. If so i would say you are pretty close, only from personal experience though and i know how all women are so very different. With my first baby i went into labour between about 9-10pm one night. Had contractions about every 20mins. Slept in between them the best i could. Went to hospital the next morning about 11am and by 11pm i had my daughter.. Good luck anyway with your upcoming labour.. I would say you are in pre-labor if there is such a thing. If your contractions continue and get closer together you should probably call your Dr and get going on Plan A! Watch for your mucus plug/bloody show, water breaking or leaking etc. Good Luck and Congrats.

well, this very well could be the start! if you keep busy, you might be able to get them closer together.....hopefully today or even tomorrow will be the big day! try vaccuming, sweeping, mopping. or go for a riggerous walk. if you keep the contractions up you can dilate/efface even more and that will bring on the contractions harder and this is REALLY what you want! good luck. :)

You can tell when it's real labour when the contractions become painful and increase in frequency. If the contractions come 5 minutes apart or less it's time to get to the hospital.

you are in labor right now. try to get some sleep no because you will probably have to go to the hospital late this evening. with my first one we left for the hospital at 2am with no sleep and when it was all said and done i was exhausted from not sleeping for 2 days.

if they continue to get closer together, last for at least one minute long and continue even when you change activity, say sit down or get up and walk around. Then labor/delivery is just around to corner. Breath and get ready to met your little one. Congratulations!!!

Any time now. anytime after 37 weeks is normal. Pack your bags, you'll be in the hospital within the next day or so.
