I hate Bush. But I consider myself a republican. I say this because I believe in less government intrusion on my daily life (whereas Bush only believes in less government when it come to regulating business).

It occured to me in political science class that black people would have more political power if we acted more as a swing vote and didn't put all our eggs in on political basket

(note: I do believe more black people went to prison than in any other time in history)

race has nothing to do with politics, that is why it would stand to reason that a decent percentage of black people would be republicans. But this is not the case.

The thing is, the current Republican party is about more intrusion into your personal life, and on a deeper and more personal level than the Democrats. Republicans believe that women should be forced to give birth against their will. They believe that certain sex acts performed in people's own homes and bedrooms should be illegal. They believe that a person with a terminal disease should not be able to choose how and when to die. All of this is very personal and much more intrusive than anything the Democrats believe.

At this point if you want less government intrusion into personal lives, you need to be looking at the Libertarians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_Party_(United_States)).

If you vote for Republican representatives and senators, you are voting for the Republican leadership, currently George W. Bush.It is THE PARTY in control in Washington that chooses chairpeople for the committees and sets the agenda. I always vote straight party, period, because I would rather see the Democratic agenda on Iraq, healthcare and education advanced. Voting split ticket is an awful idea because you are saying that it doesn't matter which party controls congress-it absolutely does.If the majority are Republicans, then the Republicans chair all the committees and set the agenda. I personally never want to see that happen again after what happened the past six years.

First off more blacks need to vote period. I really don't consider myself to be a republican of democrat. Both sides have views that I agree and don't agree with. Personally I feel that we need an increase in an independent party. This will give people a better option, also this party would probably be better for blacks as well as other minorities period.

I just wish more black people in general would think for themselves without trying to fit into this ridiculous mold that they've made for themselves. I consider myself very moderate. I refuse to call myself a Democrat or Republican simply because I don't agree entirely with either side of the spectrum. I do my research before I vote. I don't blindly walk in and vote entirely Democratic nor do I vote entirely Republican. I vote for the person who I feel best suits my needs. Sometimes this person is a Democrat, sometimes this person is a Republican, sometimes this person is an Independent.

Variety is good.

I think Blacks have been tied to the Democrats for too long (since FDR). It hasn't helped alot. I don't think you should hate Bush but he sure hasn't acted like a conservative. He seems to be in favor of big government programs I guess to curry favor with the liberals. I think he's a nice guy but his domestic policy leaves something to be desired.

I think that too many blacks vote democratic due to their empty promises - but it is up to the individual and what their personal beliefs are.

As for more blacks in prison - they need to stop committing the crimes - then they wouldn't be in prison. Whites that commit crimes go to prison, as with any other member of any other race - you do the crime - you do the time. It is proven that a higher percentages of blacks commit crime. This needs to be addressed and then they wouldn't have such a high percentage in prison.

Here in the Phoenix area - about 78% of all violent crimes are committed by illegals from Mexico - and they go to jail when they commit crimes too. It's not about race - it's about committing crime and paying a price.

No. Would Chickens vote for Coloneal Sanders? Republicans care about big business and the wealthy. They do not do much to help the poor and middle class, which is where the majority of this country lands (regardless of color).

I don't think voting 90% for one party is going to do us much good ultimately. The dems completely take us for granted and the republicans write us off. Since latin voters aren't so tied to one party, dems/repubs actually compete for their votes and I think as their population grows there will be more and more competition for their votes, unlike ours.
