Well i believe it's because O'Hare Airport is all International And Midway Airport is not. That's why it's in the City.

Having flown into both many time, try to go with Midway. There are not anywhere near the delays, the Airfare is always less expensive , and the cab ride was $21.00 plus tip last month, to the Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile area.
Have a great time, it's my favorite city in the USA. I'm 20 miles from NYC and I rarely go in, dirty, streets are horrible in bad weather. Chicago has signs watch for falling ice! NYC nothing.

It depends on where in Chicago you're coming from. O'Hare (ends in an "E" not an "A") is about 15 miles northwest of the Loop. If you take the 'L' (blue line) it will take 45 - 50 minutes to get there from downtown. Driving, you take the Kennedy Expressway. In good traffic it can take as little as 15 - 20 minutes, while at rush hour the drive can be well over an hour.
