What's great about Netflix is that you can get movies you normally don't have access to.
When I first got Netflix, I watched just about all of Hitchcocks' movies (which range from masterpieces to pretty good). "Rear Window", To Catch a Thief, Psycho, Marnie, 39 Steps, all interesting.
I also watched Kurosawa's movies -- some of the best are the Seven Samurai, Rashomon, and Ikiru.
Then there are people like Antonioni, Fellini, Traffaut... other foreign masters that have made "great" movies.
But I'd pepper any of those movies with some fun ones, too, like all of the Muppet movies, Clue, Ed Wood, etc.
Of course, there are the American Film Institute's top 100 movies --
Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, Spartacus, Dr. Zhavago (sp), Schindler's List, the Godfather I and II, all "great" movies.
With Netflix, I would want you to be challenged -- try movies you otherwise wouldn't enjoy or genres you haven't considered before.
Good luck!~

Patriot with Mel Gibson was a good one set in Revolutionary times.
Lady in White - good ghost story. Older movie.
Disney's Cars was cute. There is Narnia also.
How about the Lord of the Rings Trilogy?
Bad Boys and Bad Boys II with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are both good action movies but the language they used could have been left out so if hearing the "F" word every two minutes offends you, don't watch it. They are cops.
Van Helsin (vampire killer) is good if you like that kind of movie as was Alien vs Predator. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with Sean Connery was good also.

Paint Your Wagon. It's an old musical movie with Lee Marvin, in which Clint Eastwood sings, "I Talk to the Trees," and "I still see Elisa," among other tunes! It's hysterically funny, by the way, as well as being an all time classic. Another great old classic is "The Great Race" with Natalie Wood, Tony Curtis, Peter Falk, and Jack Lemon--definitely a must see!

I don't know if in America they showed already I just saw here in Hungary Mel Gibson's movie. APOCALYPTO. I love movies that show the real life or situation of ANY period of life. I know that is really bloody but trust me I don't like movie if just a horror or people just kill people but this movie beautifully show how men can be strong and what capable to do if really something so important for themselves. And if you think that all those people never acted in their life you will see this movie differently....!!!!
I also recommend TRISTAN & ISOLDE if you like some love story mix with drama, with historical backround.

Being John Malkovich with Cameron Diaz, John Cusack & John Malkovich - great movie about traveling into someone else's mind and body, but keeping the ability to think as yourself - quirky, but cool!
Braveheart with Mel Gibson
Legends of the Fall - Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt
Fight Club - Brad Pitt and Edward Norton
Favorite comedies:
Spaceballs - Mel Brooks parody of Star Wars and other space adventures - hilarious!
The Princess Bride
Jackass 1 & 2 - stupid humor, but really makes you laugh hard!
Enjoy!

a movie that just came out that I found to be very entertaining is "Flyboys" It is about the American pilots in the First World War who volunteered to go to France and fight in the French Air Force. They formed the Lafayette Escadrille, the Hat in the Ring Squadron, eventually the 93rd Aero Squadron when the US got into WWI. This squadron notable for the likes of Eddie Rickenbaker and other heroes of the First World War. good movie.

I can recommend three great movies.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy:
The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring
The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King
All three movies are great and received lots of academy award nominations. The Return of the King won 11 academy awards including best picture.
They're epic films about a hobbit, Frodo, who is on his quest to destroy the one ring.
