I've already moved the thing as far away from the kitchen as possible, but it still goes off constantly whenever I cook anything. Toasting a bagel to even a light brown will cause the siren to sound within a couple minutes. I swear, I'm not THAT bad at cooking.

Three options:

1) buy a new one
2) move the one you have to an area that's not so close to the source of the smoke
3) quit using your toaster :)

I guess I would have never thought one could be to sensitive, but it sounds like you do have one. I guess I would get another one too, and put this one in a basement, or attic, maybe somewhere it will not pick up on a little smoke..

I'd just toss it and get a new one... for $10 it's good piece of mind to know it works well all the time, not just when the chef is at work.

Go to your local fire station. There are detectors made just for kitchens. They'll know where you can get them.
